“Your task is not to seek for love, but to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against love.”
The heart chakra – AIR – anahata
Connect to the core of your being and you’ll find love within.
The root chakra is about turning in the body, the sacral chakra is about allowing the flow of feeling, the solar plexus is supporting ourselves with a calm and steady will and the heart chakra is opening to the spaciousness of air in the heart. The heart is the center of our being. It is about balance and integration.
BEING: rise above will and effort: balancing giving and receiving. THEN we will find love all around us: we appreciate all incredible blessing of life, with its beauty, mystery and magic. Even our lessons (hard and sometimes painful) open us up to compassion, forgiveness, understanding and love. We only need to melt away the barriers we’ve built in self-protection. We needed them in the past, but now they are in our way. These loyal soldiers, our safety mechanism kept us safe, but now they are keeping us small.
Air nourishes every part of the body, as the heart beats oxygen into every cell. Air has no edges and boundaries – you can’t tell where a field of air stops or stare. Filling your chests with air creates spaciousness inside the body, an opening to a subtle emptiness that allows your being to expand. To give the heart room to expand you need to make time and space for yourself.
Between 3,5 to 7 years kids have enough self control to shape their behavior in ways that they belief will bring love, attention and approval. They develop this chakra within the family and their other surroundings. It becomes important to be liked and included. Kids develop different ways to win love. To be smart, funny, quiet, good in …, cute, strong…
Often some of the messier parts get repressed in this process. They feel ashamed and repress their needs; they become quiet and self-contained. When we lose a part of ourselves or the love of someone important, we feel sad. Grief is the demon of the heart chakra. To fight grief, we need to reclaim some of the lost parts of ourselves and integrate them into our hearts.
Excess and deficiency are the result of defenses around a previous wound. A deficient chakra is the result of avoiding something and an excessive chakra is the result of compensating for something – doing too much.
Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without their humanity we cannot survive. We are all born wanting and needing love, but we are not born knowing how to create it: it needs to be learned. All our experiences can be seen as teachings.
The core of a relationship is the ability to relate through connecting what is inside yourself to what is inside the other. This is the basis of intimacy, which requires first knowing yourself, then loving yourself enough to feel safe being vulnerable. When you are loving yourself, you are less dependent on what others think of you and that leaves more room to be authentic, intimate and emphatic.
Generosity, compassion, caring and forgiveness can all generate the opening of the heart. The results of these actions: joy, liberation and peace.
